What Is Shunt Care?

Shunt care training teaches staff how to safely support individuals who have a ventricular shunt, a medical device used to drain excess fluid from the brain. This training is awareness‑level only and focuses on recognizing signs of shunt malfunction, understanding what a shunt does, and knowing when to seek help. Staff do not perform medical procedures— they observe, communicate concerns, and respond appropriately.
