⚠️ Introduction
Pica is the repeated eating or chewing of non-food items such as dirt, paper, soap, hair, or small objects. This behavior can be dangerous and may lead to choking, poisoning, infections, or internal injury. Staff play a critical role in recognizing pica behaviors, reducing risks, and supporting individuals safely and respectfully.
This course provides an awareness-level understanding of pica, common triggers, prevention strategies, and how to respond when pica behaviors occur.
